Goal of the Month
After a bit of a hiatus, I've finally come up with an idea for an entry - a Match of the Day style Goal of the Month competition. With a few disclaimers:
• They aren't all from last month.
• They aren't real goals, they're from Pro Evolution Soccer 5.
• They're all mine, so have a relatively small field to pick from.
Nevertheless, it could be fun, so without further ado, here come the selections. All are me playing as either Barcelona or Brazil:
Videos require Quicktime 7 - had to use this codec to compress videos to be small in size but good quality enough to still see the ball.
Goal 1 - Maxi Lopez, Barcelona vs Argentina.
Goal 2 - Xavi, Barcelona vs Juventus.
Goal 3 - Van Bommel, Barcelona vs Juventus.
Goal 4 - Messi, Barcelona vs Internazionale.
Goal 5 - Puyol, Barcelona vs Internazionale.

I know you'll just call me a gimp for using Windows, but I get a white screen both with Quicktime Player and with RealPlayer.

Hmm. It is Quicktime 7 isn't it that you have? If not then upgrade to it, if it is then I'm flummoxed.

Firstly: you ruptured pile of cow balls.
Secondly: Puyol.

You fixed it then.
My personal favourite was Xavi's.
So current tally:
Messi 1
Puyol 1
Xavi 1
Van Bommel 0
Lopez 0

Just found IPS 4 going at €9.99. I don't have enough time to warrant splashing out the money required to buy IPS 5, so, is it worth my buying IPS 4, or was IPS 5 such a leap forward that I'd be better off waiting until this version is being virtually given away?

For £6 or so, it's definitely worth getting. I mainly got 5 cos of the online play (most people who play online desert the older versions) but if it's just for an occasional kickabout you can't go wrong.

Why have I said IPS? I meant PES of course.

A tricky choice, because they all have their own idiosyncratic qualities that make them good. Maxi Lopez'chip is nice, although it would've looked better if the keeper hadn't gone to ground then you could've looped it over his head. The keeper being rooted to the spot for Van Bommell looked good, and Puyol scoring from range (given his relatively lower shooting stats) is pretty impressive. I'm going for Xavi, 'cos I know how difficult on PES it is to catch a volley like that and not blast it over.
And Tim, PES4 is pretty good, as Mike says, the only real difference to PES5 is the online play. Try to get loads of PES points and once you have 7000 you can unlock all of the classic teams. Maradona is the best player on the game.
